Fed up with ever-rising maintenance costs, more and more entities are switching to cloud-based storage. Nearly two years ago, the Obama administration jumped on the cloud bandwagon, allowing federal agencies to shift their data to the cloud. Federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra said, “We’ve been building data center after data center, acquiring application after application, and frankly what it’s done is drive up the cost of technology immensely across the board.”

Seeing the potential cost savings, the city of Los Angeles dumped its Exchange server and switched to Google Apps for Government, which includes Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Docs. Law firms of all sizes and corporations are joining this trend.
