The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office won’t be setting up a satellite office anytime soon in Silicon Valley.

Director David Kappos came to Santa Clara, Calif., April 15 to drum up support for opening an office in the region. But the PTO is now delaying plans to open any remote offices, including one already planned in Detroit. On his official blog this morning, Kappos said the federal budget enacted April 15 is forcing the agency to “make significant reductions” in spending for the remaining fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30.
