SACRAMENTO — Scanning software used by the Sacramento County Superior Court is to blame for a breach that exposed confidential documents to public view, a spokesman for the Administrative Office of the Courts said Monday.

Philip Carrizosa said the court’s locally installed scanning application did not communicate with a May 17 update of the Court Case Management System, the online computer network the judicial branch is trying to roll out statewide. That digital communication breakdown, he said, dropped confidentiality protections for sensitive probate filings — including medical and child protective records — and judicial drafts.
