SAN FRANCISCO — The Obama administration has stepped up its interest in California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno as a possible nominee for the nation’s highest court.
A source familiar with the situation confirmed Thursday that lawyers vetting candidates on the White House’s short list for U.S. Supreme Court Justice David Souter’s soon-to-be-vacated seat contacted Moreno by telephone on Wednesday night.
