15 Star Island ()
A Star Island home that was taken over in an unlikely foreclosure has sold for $13.6 million, the Daily Business Review has learned.
The nine-bedroom, 11-bathroom home at 15 Star Island Drive had listed for as much as $18.9 million but sold for a 38 percent premium over the $12.75 million it fetched at auction in late 2011.
Public records show the buyer is Frayda Lindemann, a philanthropist and fixture of the New York City opera world. She is married to the 77-year-old billionaire chief executive of natural gas company Southern Union, George Lindemann, who already has homes in Palm Beach and is one of Florida’s wealthiest residents. The Lindemmans’ new next door neighbors are philanthropists Phillip and Patricia Frost.
According to marketing materials, the home boasts a gym, large poolside cabana, second-floor sundeck and 100 feet of water frontage with a private dock. It faces downtown Miami on Biscayne Bay. The home was listed by Jill Eber, the distinguished Coldwell Banker high-end property broker.
The property had previously belonged to former Venezuelan businessman Claudio Osorio, who was convicted of defrauding investors for $40 million in 2013 and who now has considerably less luxurious digs at the low-security federal prison in Southern Dade County. Prior to that, the home belonged to rapper Vanilla Ice.
