The Farmington Board of Education unfortunately recently became the latest example of how not to end up in the newspapers as a public entity.

As reported in The Hartford Courant on Dec. 5, the board reversed its controversial decision to eliminate the Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur holidays from its calendar but continued its decision not to make Diwali a holiday. While we support the reversal, we are disappointed in the board’s insensitivity over the issues involved and think this experience can offer guidance to others in public positions when it comes to inclusivity.
