Roya Behnia, who is stepping down Friday after serving as chief legal officer of the doors and windows manufacturer Jeld-Wen for three years, said in a parting LinkedIn post that ego is the enemy of strong leadership.

“Disengage your ego from your work life,” she wrote. “Disengaging your ego is very difficult and requires significant self-reflection. If you can do this, the power you have to have an impact can grow exponentially—you can allow yourself to expand opportunities for others, you can empower your teams to lead. Your focus is less on yourself and how you appear, but on the outcome.”
