Effective leadership in a virtual world requires general counsel not only to engage in genuine conversations with the team, but also to express that we are all vulnerable. As COVID-19 has caused a variety of stress factors and frustrations to spill over into the day-to-day work environment, leadership demands a high sensitivity for mental health issues and attentiveness to “pandemic burnout.”

The call for a high EQ leadership style came during a discussion on effective leadership in a virtual world at ALM’s Women, Influence & Power in Law Conference in Washington, D.C. “Being inspirational and showing integrity” are crucial when leading teams in a remote or hybrid work environment, said Sara Morgan, senior VP and head of global talent at Axiom, who moderated the panel.
