Hong Kong-based Howse Williams Bowers has expanded its office with the addition of two new partners.

David Coogans, the current head of U.K. firm  Holman Fenwick & Willan’s Sydney office, will relocate to Hong Kong to join Howse Williams’ shipping and international trade team, while Linda Heathfield will bring her Hong Kong family and matrimonial practice to the firm.

Coogans first worked as an officer aboard cargo and container ships before becoming qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1989, when he joined the former Richards Butler. He was a partner at the firm, which subsequently became  Reed Smith Richards Butler, between 1994 and 2004. After that, he returned to his native Australia, where he had his own shipping law practice until he joined Holman Fenwick in July 2011.

Heathfield has been partner at family and matrimonial practice Ip & Heath in Hong Kong since 2008. Prior to that, she worked at Hong Kong-based Boase, Cohen & Collins from 1994, making partner in 2006. Her hire marks the expansion into a new practice area for Howse Williams.

Howse Williams  launched earlier this year after a group of lawyers left Reed Smith to start their own firm. There are presently 35 lawyers at Howse Williams, including eight partners.
