Omar Samji, who was head of energy innovation at Shearman & Sterling, has joined Weil Gotshal & Manges as a partner in corporate practice in Houston, the firm said Monday.

He’s the latest Shearman partner to exit the firm this year, after the firm called off merger talks with Hogan Lovells and amid a leadership transition and continuing layoffs. The firm in February laid off 12 associates and 26 business professionals, citing the need to align capacity with “existing client demands.” Most recently the firm laid off more staff, announcing “a global workforce reduction in business services,” according to a memo posted on Above the Law last week.
