The Maryland high court has unanimously held that the employer of an independent contractor cannot be held liable for injuries to the contractor’s employees caused by the contractor’s negligence.

The Maryland Court of Appeals affirmed both the Maryland Court of Special Appeals and the Circuit Court of Baltimore City in dismissing a four-count complaint filed against the city of Baltimore, Keith Sutton and his company Sutton Building Solutions LLC (SBS).
