Philadelphia’s midsize firms remain “stuck in a rut” when it comes to bringing attorneys back to the office, struggling to balance the desire for more in-office workers with fears of attrition in the wake of a tight labor market.

Recently, however, Cozen O’Connor—one of the larger players in the market—has made an innovative attempt to escape this rut, revising its RTO policy with an encouragement to partners to give work to those coming into the office. In doing so, the firm eschewed the less-than-popular tactic of threatening to cut yearly bonuses if attorneys do not comply with an RTO policy.
