Amazon’s general counsel David Zapolsky received total compensation of $18.2 million in 2022, according to a regulatory filing Wednesday, returning him to the ranks of the nation’s highest-paid legal chiefs.

The Seattle-based company doles out nearly all its pay in the form of periodic stock grants that don’t necessarily correlate with fiscal years. Last year, he did not receive a stock grant, leaving him with compensation of just $163,000. A year earlier, he received a $17 million grant, bringing his total compensation to $17.2 million.
