McDermott Will & Emery announced Tuesday it has brought on a former Orrick IP litigator as partner.

Kieran Kieckhefer joined the firm’s Silicon Valley office this week. At Orrick, where she started as a summer associate in 2006, Kieckhefer focused on patent, trademark and trade secrets law. She also participated in a four-month secondment with the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.

“With her trial experience, and litigation management background, Kieran will play a key role in representing McDermott’s IP litigation clients,” Daniel Alberti, partner-in-charge of the Silicon Valley office, said in a statement.

Sarah Chapin Columbia, a partner and head of McDermott’s IP litigation group, praised Kieckhefer’s trial strategy acumen and mastery of current consumer and business technologies.

Before embarking on her legal career, Kieckhefer earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from MIT and consulted for tech startups in San Francisco and Boston. She was not available for an interview.
