A pair of lawsuits filed against JPMorgan Chase & Co. in Los Angeles and San Mateo superior courts alleged that the bank committed elder abuse by facilitating the theft of a combined $2 million from two elderly women’s life savings through ”pig butchering” schemes and fake Internal Revenue Service agent scams.

Attorneys with Cotchett Pitre & McCarthy filed the lawsuits on behalf of Diane Artemis Yaffe, 76, of San Mateo County, and Alice Lin, 80, of Los Angeles County. Both plaintiffs filed lawsuits seeking to recover damages from JPMorgan. Yaffe was defrauded of more than $1.5 million and was forced to sell her home as well as other assets to cover her losses, while Lin lost all of her retirement savings, totaling $750,000, according to their respective complaints.
