Political boutique Olson Remcho intends to defend a portion of California’s so-called bounty hunter gun law in federal court after Attorney General Rob Bonta bowed out Thursday.

Olson Remcho senior counsel Robin Johansen proposed in filings in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California that her firm intervene on behalf of Gov. Gavin Newsom in two lawsuits challenging SB 1327. The governor was a major backer of the statute, which allows individuals to sue those who make or sell outlawed guns in California. California’s law is modeled after SB 8 in Texas, which creates a private right of action to enforce the state’s abortion restrictions.
