Critics of California’s Private Attorneys General Act have stopped efforts to qualify a November ballot initiative to curb the controversial workplace law, saying they will try instead to put the issue before voters in 2024.

A coalition of farmers, car dealers, trucking companies and other industry groups pushing the proposed initiative said in a statement released Thursday afternoon that it ran into a “timing” issue in ensuring election officials would have enough time to verify its collection of 623,212 valid signatures.
