Elizabeth Holmes described Monday how the controlling nature of her romantic relationship with Theranos executive Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani “impacted everything,” but she stopped short of claiming he forced her to make statements to investors, journalists or business partners.

During Holmes’ fourth day of direct examination in San Jose federal court, the founder of the defunct blood-testing company characterized Balwani as an emotionally and sexually abusive partner 20 years her senior who told her she needed to stop acting like “a little girl” if she wanted to be successful.
