Gov. Gavin Newsom sued California Secretary of State Shirley Weber Monday after she refused to list his Democratic Party affiliation by his name on the upcoming recall ballot. Newsom said a campaign attorney inadvertently failed to submit a request to do so on time.

Facing a recall election later this year, Newsom asked a Sacramento County Superior Court judge to force Weber to list his Democratic registration. The lawsuit was first reported by Courthouse News.
