Despite a sympathetic plaintiff whose young wife died due to an alleged medical error, a doctor facing claims over the death was able to convince a Philadelphia jury that her treatment did not cause the claimed injuries, avoiding a judgment that could potentially have been in the millions of dollars.

On Oct. 18, a Philadelphia jury handed up a defense verdict in the case Allen v. Tumpati, finding in favor of Dr. Jacque Curtis. Although they found the treatment was negligent, the jury determined Curtis’ treatment did not cause Tiffany Allen’s death.
