The state Senate passed a measure that would change the composition of the council that reviews housing codes.

The state’s Uniform Construction Code Review and Advisory Council would be updated by the proposed amendment to require all council members to be residents of Pennsylvania. The amendment would also require one general contractor appointed by the president pro tempore of the Senate, one second- or third-class city official delegated by the minority leader of the Senate, a single member would also be chosen by the speaker of the House of Representatives and the minority leader of the House would also get to pick a member for the council. Seventeen other members would be appointed by the governor. All appointments would be non-salary.
