Car sharing platform Turo and its insurance carrier made the final payment in March of a $1.6 million settlement in a Middlesex County insurance dispute, Nandikona v. Nautilus Insurance Co., stemming from the crash of a vehicle rented through Turo.

The case stems from a collision on Aug. 11, 2015, when a car rented through Turo collided with another vehicle. The Turo vehicle was driving on Production Way, just off Route 1 in Woodbridge, when the driver, traveling at a high speed, failed to negotiate a curve and ran into a curb. The driver lost control of his vehicle, careened into the parking lot of a nearby business, and collided with another vehicle. A passenger in the other vehicle, Mohamed Sadek, sustained cervical disc herniation and had to undergo a cervical fusion, said his lawyer, Nicholas Leonardis of Stathis & Leonardis in Edison.
