Ryan M. Magee, a former prosecutor, has joined McCarter & English as a partner in Newark. He’ll handle cannabis law, white collar defense and investigations, and cybersecurity and data privacy, the firm said. Magee was an assistant in the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, where he spent seven years before joining Riker Danzig in 2018.

Joseph Boccassini, McCarter’s firmwide managing partner, said in a statement that Magee “advises cannabis businesses on the broad spectrum of issues that arise in that burgeoning industry, and he’s achieved impressive results representing individuals and corporations charged with, and under investigation for, federal and state crimes,” adding that his “experience as a cybercrimes prosecutor will also greatly benefit our clients as they navigate complicated security and privacy issues.” Boccassini said, “These are all areas where we are seeing significant growth and demand.”
