South Florida litigators convinced state court jurors to return a multimillion-dollar verdict by acknowledging the facts stacked against their client, while emphasizing the alleged catastrophic failure of law enforcement that resulted in a woman’s death.

Jose Raposo and John Lukacs Jr. of Raposo & Lukacs, and Manuel Dieguez of Armand & Dieguez said one of the challenges in the case—which involved the plaintiff, the estate of Annie Becerra, against the defendant, Miami-Dade County—was telling jurors during selection that Florida law allows for the allocation of fault, even when the plaintiff is negligent.
