The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear an appeal regarding the constitutionality of a federal law that bars people under domestic violence restraining orders from obtaining firearms.

The court’s coming consideration of United States v. Rahimi marks the first Second Amendment case before the justices since they created a test that requires the government to prove the gun restriction is consistent with the nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation.
