Equality is central to the idea of America. To honor Women’s History Month we should ratify the Equal Rights Amendment as the 28th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

Last week the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on the ERA, the first in the Senate on the subject since 1984. Congress is currently considering a joint resolution that would repeal a deadline Congress had previously set to ratify the ERA so that it can become part of the Constitution. The requisite 38 states have ratified the ERA, but No. 38, Virginia, missed the deadline.
