The Justice Department lodged a lawsuit against former Trump administration trade adviser Peter Navarro Wednesday in an attempt to claw back presidential records allegedly contained in a private email account he used while in the White House.

“While serving in the White House, Mr. Navarro used at least one non-official email account—an account hosted by the non-official service ProtonMail—to send and receive messages constituting presidential records,” wrote Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian Boynton in a complaint filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. “Under federal common law, any presidential records retained by Mr. Navarro should be taken from him and delivered to the United States.”
