President Joe Biden’s administration is already facing its first legal battles and feeling the impact of his predecessor’s legacy on the federal courts.

At least four judges appointed by President Donald Trump have issued rulings against the federal government since Biden was inaugurated, largely over an eviction moratorium that began under Trump. Other lawsuits filed by Republican attorneys general have also been assigned to Trump judges or filed in jurisdictions where they’re likely to be assigned to a Trump appointee.
