On April 11 the Texas Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 1611, also called the Michael Morton Act, a rewrite of the state’s criminal-discovery statute.
Current law requires a prosecutor to disclose exculpatory or mitigating evidence and requires criminal-defense lawyers to obtain a court order for other discovery.
