Lawyers: There’s a fight in the Texas Legislature over your email addresses.

The battle lines became clear on March 4, when the House Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence Committee held a hearing on House Bill 293. The bill would require the State Bar of Texas to provide lawyers’ names, bar card numbers and email addresses to an accredited continuing legal education provider affiliated with a state agency, including a public law school. The provider could only use a lawyer’s email address to notify him about CLE.
