Jury awards $1.9 million to customer blaming pit bull for fall in store

A customer who claimed she fell in a car repair shop when a pit bull rushed at her was awarded $1.9 million on April 12. Stephanie Smith went to Rios Radiator and Mechanic Shop that was operated by Hector Mandujano, who kept the dog there for security. She claimed she was walking in the shop when she tried to back away from the dog and fell. She fractured the radius of her dominant right wrist and sprained her left wrist. Mandujano claimed that Smith was talking on her cell phone and walked into a section of the shop marked with clearly visible notices as off-limits to customers.
