Assistant VP fired in reorganization gets $1.24 million

An assistant vice president who claimed that her job elimination as part of a reorganization was retaliation won $1.24 million on March 9. Debra Nicholas lost her job at the San Antonio Water System in 2009 after she was reassigned to work under Greg Flores, the vice president of external affairs. A couple years before this change she was directed to deliver a reprimand to Flores after female employees had complained that he had asked them out to lunch. After her reassignment, Flores reorganized his department to eliminate only her position, she claimed. She also claimed that Flores refused to consider her for other open positions even though she was the most qualified candidate.
