A California-based legal-recruiting firm and its affiliate are seeking $1 million in damages in a suit that alleges a former employee wrongfully disclosed confidential information — allegations the defendant denies.

On May 17, the plaintiffs filed BCG Attorney Search Inc. and Professional Authority d/b/a Legal Authority v. Robert Kinney in a Travis County district court. In their petition, the plaintiffs (collectively referred to as the “BCG Companies”) allege the following: Kinney worked for BCG from April 2002 to March 2004, when he was “terminated.” In May 2008, Kinney allegedly started “a campaign to defame and ruin the BCG Companies,” which included “public disclosure of large amounts of Confidential Information” in an anonymous Internet posting that was “designed to damage BCG’s business and reputation.”
