Jury sides with SUV driver in minor collision with transit bus

On Jan. 30, a jury declined to award damages to a passenger on a Dallas Area Rapid Transit bus who claimed she was injured when a sport utility vehicle struck it. Lora Knudsen claimed cervical and lumbar sprains and strains when she was jolted in the collision caused by Jack R. Sharp. The defense argued that the impact was minor, saying that it was not an injury-producing accident. Sharp said he was going 5 mph at impact, and photos showed no damage other than a scuff on the bus’s rear bumper. Sharp is a defendant in four suits by four occupants of the bus, including the bus driver. Knudsen’s case was filed first, and the first to go to trial. The other three are pending.
