The son of a U.S. Air Force pilot, 97th District Judge Roger Towery moved all over the United States when he was growing up. But eventually, far north Texas would become his anchor.

“Every couple years we would move. It did give me a broad view of the United States,” Towery says — from Monterey, Calif., and the sea to Kentucky and the tall trees. “And when we were in northern Texas, all of a sudden the land became flat and dry,” he says.
