On Nov. 17, a jury awarded $722,263 to a law firm that accused a former client of failing to pay for its services. In 2006, Dallas-based Rose Walker represented Houston Helicopters Inc. in a products liability case in Brazoria County. Houston Helicopters lost the suit at trial. Rose Walker later filed a breach of contract suit against the company, alleging it failed to pay for 18 months of pretrial work and three weeks of trial work. It sought nearly $600,000 in damages, plus additional attorney fees. Houston Helicopters contended Rose Walker had represented that its total bill would not exceed $120,000, then billed for a far larger amount. It also claimed Rose Walker had agreed to only accept compensation if Houston Helicopters had prevailed at trial.
