New Orleans–based nuclear power company Entergy said Monday that it plans to divest its electric- transmission business and merge it with ITC Holdings.

Novi, Michigan–based ITC will incur $1.78 billion in debt in connection with the transaction—no other money will change hands—and take over 15,700 miles of transmission lines that deliver electricity to Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.
