The Penn State board of trustees has approved a figure in excess of $30 million to settle the claims of a number of plaintiffs claiming convicted serial child molester Jerry Sandusky sexually abused them, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.
Sources also confirmed that the school's board of trustees agreed to a number well short of $100 million — a figure media reports have been quoted as saying the university could approach in legal liability, stemming from a scandal that has directed unyielding scrutiny toward Penn State for close to two years regarding its handling of allegations against Sandusky, the former defensive coordinator on its football coaching staff.
