Construction projects generate a staggering amount of paper. Other than raw building materials used in construction, paper is perhaps the biggest commodity used on a construction project. Contracts, specifications, drawings, payment applications, change orders, requests for information, shop drawings and general job correspondence — to name a few — create project files that can easily exceed 1,000 pages.

Understandably, this avalanche of paper, combined with the pressures of both completing the project and getting paid on time, causes many contractors to sometimes overlook the significance of the multiple forms exchanged during a project.
