A former Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe associate who claims he was passed over for partnership after receiving assurances he would be promoted cannot recover punitive damages from the firm, a state judge has ruled.
Patrick J. Hoeffner’s 2005 suit claimed that three of Orrick’s intellectual property partners promised to put him up for partner in order to prevent him from leaving the firm and taking a client with him.
