Provost Umphrey is one of several law firms that has brought lawsuits against Dole and other companies claiming that their use of a pesticide called dibromochloropropane, or DBCP, on banana plantations during the 1970s and 1980s caused the workers to become sterile.

The settlement would resolve all of Provost Umphrey’s lawsuits involving banana workers in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Honduras, said Mark Sparks of the Beaumont, Texas, firm. Sparks declined to provide specifics about the settlement, including any financial payout.
