Edwin Harnden reported a noticeable uptick in employers seeking advisory work during the past year — a sign, he said, that the labor market in Portland, Ore., is improving.

Harnden, managing partner at labor and employment firm Barran Liebman, said his firm added two attorneys to its 20-person practice last year, but that, overall, jobs have remained flat across the city. The economic recovery throughout Oregon has been slow, he said, so firms that specialize in real estate and corporate litigation may still be feeling the pinch.
