A federal appellate court has ruled that a Wyoming law creating a procedure to expunge misdemeanor domestic violence convictions only in order to restore an individual's firearms rights violates the federal ban on gun ownership by individuals with those convictions. The 2004 Wyoming law allowed the sealing of records of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence under certian conditions specifically "for the purposes of restoring any firearm rights lost."
