In 2004, a new global risk regulation was born.

Dubbed the Basel II Accord, it addressed risk management issues. There was no need, at that time, to involve general counsel in preparing banks to meet these new rules. In the past five years, however, risk management has become more and more important, and it is now the center of attention for regulators, governments, investors, boards, executive management and potential class action litigants.
