Oh, the perils of working at a high-tech startup company. Tamara Tompkins, until this week the general counsel of the biotech firm Amyris Inc., found out the hard way.

After its stock tanked, Amyris said Wednesday in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it was replacing several members of its top management — including Tompkins. It had already replaced its chief financial officer.
