A disbarred bankruptcy lawyer in Jackson, Miss., has been sentenced to 32 months in federal prison for defrauding clients out of thousands of dollars.
John Allen had already pleaded guilty to the fraud-related charges before being sentenced. Allen was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Dan Jordan.
Prosecutors alleged that the 61-year-old attorney obtained funds from clients and deposited the money into his trust account.
Allen was also accused of falsely representing to one those clients that the money was used to minimize the client's debts and satisfy creditors. Later, he transferred the money from his trust account to his personal account for his own use.
Allen had practiced law in Mississippi since 1980, but was disbarred on Feb. 26, 2007.
