Attorneys for the Coca-Cola Co. are trying to use class action king William Lerach's guilty plea to conspiring to obstruct justice to derail a seven-year-old securities fraud case against the soft drink giant. In one pleading, Coke lawyers accused Lerach of having engaged in tactics in the Atlanta case similar to those that Lerach and a former partner have admitted employing in other class action cases. Since 2000, Lerach has been lead co-counsel for shareholders who sued Coke.
