The thing about race in law? People don’t care enough. Partners tell me that they’re already maxed out on gender issues and social mobility. So once you add race to the mix, fatigue kicks in very quickly indeed.

“It’s still seen as a fringe issue,” a Black London partner told me. “When race comes up in meetings, people get very serious. But it’s mostly forgotten about the minute they leave the room.”
