Several Delaware gun rights organizations challenged the state’s recently passed law banning assault rifles in federal court Wednesday, arguing the law wrongly criminalizes constitutionally protected rights.

Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith managing partner Francis Pileggi filed the complaint in the District of Delaware, claiming the law signed by Gov. John Carney on June 30 oversteps both the state and federal constitutions by classifying certain semi-automatic firearms as assault rifles, making their possession or sale a felony.
