Lawyers and judges packed a law firm dining room Wednesday to hear the first speech given by Attorney General Chris Carr, who took office Nov. 1 to fill the unexpired term of Sam Olens.

The setting was a regular monthly lunch meeting of the Atlanta chapter of the Federalist Society for Law & Public Policy Studies. But the turnout was beyond routine. “Unprecedented” was the word used by chairman Frank Strickland while introducing Carr. Members pulled in extra chairs from a nearby conference room at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton. The 27th floor Peachtree Street gathering room was beyond its capacity of 150. The caterers ran out of glasses.
